Sinusitis is defined as an inflammation of the sinus lining commonly caused by bacterial, viral and / or microbial infection; as well as, structural issues such as ostial blockage. If the sinus opening becomes swollen shut, normal mucus drainage may accur, and this may lead to infection and inflammation of the sinuses
The symptoms caused by sinusitis may be quite uncomfortable. The signs and symptoms may include:
- Facial pain, pressure, congestion or fullness
- Difficulty breathing through the nose
- Discharge of yellow or green mucus from the nose
- Pain if the teeth
- Loss of the sense of smell or taste
- Sore throat
- Bad Breath
When you have frequent sinusitis, or the infection lasts three months or more, it could be chronic sinusitis. Symptoms of chronic sinusitis may be less severe than those of acute; however, untreated chronic sinusitis can cause damage to the sinuses and cheekbones that sometimes requires surgery to repair.
